Margot Matthews

Margot Matthews

Margot graduated from Queen’s University, Canada in Chemical Engineering . She has worked 25 years in the minerals and energy sectors here in western Australia. Margot recently left industry to pursue her interests in the not for profit sector.

Bay Yeo
Chair of the Board

Bay is the managing director of Exal Group a boutique property development and project management company. He has a PhD in Civil Engineering and was nominated as WA’s Young Engineer of the Year in 2012.
Bay believes that professionals in the built environment sector are equipped to create meaningful change. This led to him co-founding Colab.org in 2014, a not-for-profit promoting pro-bono engineering and architecture. He currently sits as chairman of the board and works closely with his team to link professionals to lend their skills in helping communities.


M ChaiMichael Chai
Secretary

Michael Chai graduated from Curtin University of Western Australia with a degree in Bachelor of Commerce Majoring in Accounting and Finance. He is also a Certified Practising Accountant and Public Practice Licensee with CPA Australia, a registered tax agent with the Tax Practitioners Board and also a Chartered Accountant with Malaysian Institute of Accountants. He is currently one of the Partner at STC Partners, a local boutique accounting firm. Outside of work, he loves to work on his project cars and enjoy quality time with his young family.

Fion LauFion Lau
Director

Since graduating from the University of Western Australia, Fion joined Robert Bird Group as a structural engineer and has a strong passion for designing high rise towers and architecturally interesting buildings. She loves travelling with work and has visited a number of offices in Dubai, Brisbane, Sydney and has finally decided to move to the Melbourne office. This has suited her adventurous taste in brunches, casual drinks and weird cuisines! Fion is also devoted to improving the built environment industry and is currently studying a Masters in Construction Law at the University of Melbourne.

Ambassadors

Our Ambassadors are senior people in the industry whom are passionate about COLAB. They help us increase awareness and understanding of the work we do.


Lyn Beazley

Lyn Beazley, COLAB’s Inaugural Ambassador, was Chief Scientist of Western Australia from 2006 to 2013.

Lyn Beazley works tirelessly as an ambassador for science to the public among many other philanthropic pursuits. She was Chief Scientist of Western Australia from 2006 to 2013. Her other accolades include Australian of the Year (2009), inductee of Western Australian Women’s Hall of Fame, a Fellow of the Australian College of Educators and a Companion of Engineers Australia and the Governor’s Award for Giving.

 

Our Advisory Panel

The advisory panel is made up of senior executives who provide their knowledge and experience to help COLAB better achieve its goals of building better communities.


A BuchananAngus Buchanan

Angus Buchanan, Advisory Panel Chair – Dr Angus Buchanan is the head of school at Curtin University with the School of Occupational Therapy and Social Work, and the Centre for Research into Disability and Society.

Angus was the Rotary District Governor of North Western Australia in 2014-15.

 


B DavisBrett Davis

Brett is the Perth Office Manager of national consulting engineering firm, Wood & Grieve Engineers (WGE), and is an Executive Director. Brett has spent over 18 years in the construction industry as a mechanical engineering with WGE.

Brett is passionate about mentoring future leaders and giving back to the community through his involvement in the industry.

 


Geoff BarkerGeoff Barker

Geoff has over thirty years of experience in architecture. The last 23 years as Principal of PM+D Architects. Geoff is interested in projects where there are competing objectives [such as physical, financial and social] but where there is also a commitment to positive outcomes for the users of place and space, and adding “something”.


Tony LakisTony Lakis

Tony ran his own construction business for a number of years and has been involved in Master Builders society.


Robert RowbottamRobert Rowbottam

Rob 49 year experience. In December 2013 Rob retired from BG&E after 37 years’, completing his time at BG&E as an Associate Director. Rob is currently working part time as a sole practitioner.

Rob has been heavily involved with Engineers Australia.. In 2012 Rob was awarded the Engineers Australia Medal for his services to Engineers Australia.
